Google announced a core update on 22nd August 2023. The update successfully rolled out after 16 days on 7th September 2023.  It is the second major algorithm change of the year. A bit of movement was seen around 25th August followed by 30th August through 1st September.

The issue was that the tools were not supposedly picking up to the core update due to increased traffic due to the Labor Day holiday weekend. Some suspect the volatility is related to ranking changes while others believe them to be layout changes in Google search results.

The fact that such updates are aimed to enhance the quality of search results and can potentially affect the visibility and traffic of websites across the internet makes it critical for all brands, businesses, and organizations.

SEO conversation on Webmaster World

  • Users in the US and Canada discussed the effects of the traffic on Google Images during the rollout.
  • A drop was confirmed by another user hoping it to end soon.
  • Yet another user agreed that night had the worst drop ever.
