Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, recently hinted that Google Search is going to have profound change in 2025. It is going to leave the users in an aww with a drastically different search experience in the upcoming year.
Pichai discussed more about these during his interview at the 2024 New York Times DealBook Summit. He claimed that users will be surprised with the new things search will be able to do as compared to what it is today.
He mentioned that “we are going to be able to tackle more complex questions than ever before and users will see visible changes towards the beginning of 2025.”
Google is Focusing on AI
In the interview further, Pichai said that Google is now applying AI more aggressively in search. He emphasized the rapid pace of AI development and its use to stay ahead in competition. He also mentioned that out of all Google projects, AI was applied the most to Search citing the use of BERT, MUM, and multimodal search.
Google has already begun to integrate more AI in search. Google has added AI-generated summaries and an improved Lens tool that allows video-based searches. Also, Google is confident about its own AI model, Gemini, and is preparing to launch a more advanced version.
Pichai’s Reply to Microsoft CEO
Sundar Pichai also responded to a remark made by Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, earlier this year. Nadella previously mentioned that Google should have been the “default winner” in the AI race, as they were one of the first movers on generative AI back in 2022.
Pichai sharply replied to Nadella’s comment saying “I would love to do a side-by-side comparison of Microsoft’s own models and our models.” He further added that Microsoft is using someone else’s AI model, pointing towards their current partnership with OpenAI.
Looks like Pichai is highly confident about their AI model Gemini when he mentioned that Google is still in the earliest stages of a profound shift. Pichai said that there’s a lot of scope for innovation ahead and they are committed to being the top innovators in the growing field of AI.
What’s Coming in 2025?
From Pichai’s interview, it is clear that Google is ready for a big AI overhaul of search in the upcoming year. They are all set to transform the search experience of users in 2025 with their upgraded AI models. Also, they are all set to compete with other AI models like Microsoft, OpenAI, and Perpelixity with their better-than-ever Gemini AI model.
