John Mueller, a Google Search advocate, has recently made a surprising reveal about the “Validate Fix” button that is found in the Google Search Console.

According to Mueller, the validate fix button that we use to notify Google that we have fixed an issue does not actually signal Google to expedite anything from its end.

The button just acts as a reporting mechanism for you to track the status of the issue when Google recrawls it and to check whether it is fixed or not from Google’s end. It simply means that clicking on the validate fix button will not speed anything up.

What Mueller Said?

Mueller shared this information about the validate fix button on a Reddit thread. He mentioned that the validate fix button on the Search Console is only to help you track how things are being reprocessed by Google. It has nothing to do with speeding up the reprocessing.

He mentioned that if your issues are still not fixed from Google’s end even after you mark them as fixed with the validate fix button, it is important to focus on fixing the issue at your end.

If you have fixed the issues within a few days, the reprocessing might happen quickly. But if it has been a long time or there are a lot of pages on a new website, the processing might take more time.

The Exceptions

John also posted an update that there are some exceptions where Google actually expedites the crawling and reprocessing based on the validate fix button. For example in situations where a fix is recognizable, such as SD/AMP issues.

Why We Care?

So if you still think that clicking on the validate fix button in the Google Search Console will speed up the reprocessing of your issues on Google’s end, no it won’t. To try to speed up things, it is better to use the URL inspection tool to request Google to recrawl your pages and recognize the fixes you have made.
